Austrian Renate Goetschl won a World Cup downhill race Saturday for
her second victory in two days.
Goetschl followed form from her super-G win Friday and sped down the
slightly longer downhill layout in one minute, 30.74 seconds. The
two wins are her first since severely injuring her knee in March.
Kirsten Clark's second-place finish, 0.29 seconds behind, was the
best result for the U.S. women's team since Caroline Lalive's
runner-up finish in a downhill at Altenmarkt in March.
The podium finish vaulted Clark into a tie with France's Carole
Montillet atop the downhill standings. Montillet came in fourth,
0.44 seconds behind. Another Austrian, Michaela Dorfmeister, placed
third 0.33 seconds back.
Croatian Janica Kostelic finished eighth and maintained a large lead
atop the overall standings. Clark, who won a downhill at Lenzerheide
two years ago, was joined in the top 10 by compatriot Jonna Mendes,
who posted her best-ever result in fifth place. |
