The first female cross-country athlete from Iran in Sochi Winter Olympic Games
For the first time a female athlete from Iran participated in an international cross-country competition, along with the world class champions, having qualified for the Olympic Games.
Today, 13 February 2014, Farzaneh Rezasoltani took part in the 10 km classic contest full of energy and motivation and wearing the Islamic attire. Participating in her second international competition, she crossed the finish line without considerable fatigue in 42:31:03 and achieving the 73rd place out of 77 competitors.
Talking about her participation in the Sochi Olympic Games and having successfully crossed the finish line she said: “I am a representative of Iran in the sport of cross-country skiing and I hope our country can have a larger number of athletes in this sport in the near future. I am also hopeful to participate in the next Olympic Games in better conditions.
This is the first time Iran has sent a female athlete to participate in cross-country skiing competitions in the Olympic Games. Alongside Farzaneh Rezasoltani, a male athlete from Iran will also take part in the 15 km contest.
