Iranian Skiers Secure Two Valuable Winter Olympic Quotas at the World Cross-Country Skiing Championships

The World Cross-Country Skiing Championships kicked off today in Norway, with Iranian athletes competing and securing two valuable quotas for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Ski and Winter Sports Federation, the event began today in Norway, featuring Iran's national representatives.

In the women's 7.5 km preliminary race, Samaneh Bayrami Baher finished in 11th place, successfully securing a quota for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Meanwhile, Sahel Tir ranked 42nd, with Farnoush Shemshaki and Atefeh Salehi finishing in 49th and 50th places, respectively.

In the men's 7.5 km preliminary race, Danial Saveh Shemshaki placed 33rd, while Mehdi Tir finished 36th. Seyed Ahmadreza Seyd and Alireza Maghdi secured the 48th and 51st positions, respectively. All four Iranian male skiers met the qualification criteria for the Winter Olympics, with one athlete set to be selected by the federation to represent Iran at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games.

It is worth noting that Mohammad Taghi Shemshaki serves as the head coach of the men's national team, while Azadeh Kia Shemshaki coaches the women's national team in this competition.
